If the macOS that you want isn't compatible with your Mac or the currently installed macOS, the installer will let you know, and the App Store might prevent you from downloading it. For example, it might dim the Get button, say that the macOS is not compatible with this device, or say that the requested version of macOS is not available.
Download Macos Catalina 10.15 Installer
The installers in the Mac App Store are full ones and don't require any intermediate versions, except when going from 10.8.5 or earlier. The downloads from Apple Support do require the OS revision to be installed.
Thanks to this patcher tool, you will still be able to install macOS Catalina on an unsupported Mac, as long as you meet the hardware requirements for the update. Also, if you have multiple Macs but limited internet data, you can download the full installer as a one-time step, transfer it to a USB flash drive and use it as bootable media for installation on other Macs.
Thank you so much. I wasted hours trying to download the installer and then had the good fortune to find this article. It was very frustrating to find the roadblocks Apple has installed for what should be a simple, straightforward process for those of us who have no interest in becoming programmers. Much obliged!
We are off to the races now! The first thing you will notice is that instead of downloading macOS Mojave Installer inside the App Store it opens Software Update. Software Update will search for the Installer and ask if you are sure you want to download the 6gb Mojave Installer. After clicking download you will get a new prompt for admin credentials to start the download (not to actually install yet). After the download completes you will finally have the latest macOS installer.app.
I showed you how to download the macOS installer through the Mojave Mac App store. The thing is, a better way to download the full installer exists and is called installinstallmacos.py. I was going to explain how to use installinstallmacos.py here but now realize the topic deserves a full article. I did not even get into hardware specific (Forked) builds. As you can see we have a lot to go over, so stay tuned. I will put the link here when complete.
High Sierra is no more available in Mojave App Store. You need to update the article. Also you can confirm if that is the case? Is there another possible method to download High Sierra installer? Thanks
macOS Catalina 10.15 is one of the most popular macOS operating systems that runs on Apple's laptops and desktops. The latest version is 10.15.6 and only available for part of Mac computers with high profile or enrolled in Apple Beta Program. Is there any way to upgrade the macOS to Catalina manually or install Catalina on Mac from scratch? The answer is Yes. But you have to download macOS Cataina DMG or the installer app, which help you create a Catalina bootable USB for installation.
If you are looking for the easiest way to download macOS Catalina DMG and but don't know how? Well, there are three ways by which you can instantly get the latest macOS installer without a hassle. Part 1. Direct Download Link for macOS Catalina
Part 2. Download macos Catalina Installer from Mac App Store
Part 3. Download Install DMG from macOS Catalina Patcher
Part 1. Get MacOS Catalina DMG Via Direct Download Link Many people prefer the direct download link of macOS Catalina as it is more flexible. You can unpack the DMG file and make a bootable Catalina installer USB, which can be used to install macOS on other computers. However, it is not easy to find the direct download link because Apple wants you to upgrade from Mac App Store. Fortunately, there are a few good websites that host the direct download link of macOS Catalina DMG. After that, you can burn the macOS dmg to USB to make it bootable for installation.
Apple always recommends its users downloading macOS install file from Mac App Store for security reasons. It is safe and easy. But the actual downloaded file is not an dmg file. Instead, it is an app called Install macOS Catalina, which is used to make the upgrade from current macOS to Catalina. For a clean install, it is better to download the dmg file and make an installer USB.
However, the file size of these updates differs depending on the Mac device you are using. That means the downloaded update might not necessarily be the full installer version. For instance, if you wish to keep the installer file as archive for further application, or use it to generate bootable flash drive, this file size won't be sufficient.
This message (or a variant) will sometimes show up just after you start the installation process, and is most often caused by a corrupt installer file. The simple solution is to delete the macOS Catalina installer and download a new copy.
Tring to upgrade from MoJave to Catalina and it tells me I must install catalina before installing catalina. Trying to install 10.15.7 from 10.14.6. ultimate goal is to get to BigSur. This is on a 2017 Mac Mini.
Hi I am trying to download the MacOS Catalina on a MacBookAir early 2014 Yosemite 10.10.5 and when I click continue to install it a caution sign pops up at the top of my screen saying Downloading installer information to the target volume failed.Any help please. Stay safe
In this case, the corrupt disk image is referring to the download of the mac OS Catalina installer which contains a disk image within it. While not common, it is not unusual that during a download of a large file such as the Catalina installer one or more files can become corrupt.
Upgrading from 10.15 to 10.15.1 failed on my 2012 Mac mini. I solved this by downloading the complete 10.15.1 installer, and install it on an external disk (just to be safe). This install finished properly but running 10.15.1 on an external disk triggers the XprotectService running wild problem (reported elsewhere) that consumes most CPU resources and makes my mini very very slow. Repeatedly killing the XprotectService process makes it possibnle to get some basic things done nut not much more. I managed to migrate my data from the internal disk to the USB disk (took very very long due to the XprotectService problem), and then managed to install 10.15.1 competely on the internal disk using the installer. Running from the internal disk does not trigger the XProtectService problem, so I have been happy but waiting for 10.15.2 to fix this issue.
If the installer is failing that fast after you select a target drive, I would try deleting the installer and downloading a new copy. There have been reports of corrupt installers and that is one of the symptoms.
Use Disk Utility to check that your drive(s) are in good shape, you can find a link to check your drives in that article above. Make sure all other apps are closed and you may want to delete the Catalina installer and downloaded a new copy.
Had the same problem on my MBP. It was during the Beta Catalina OS load. Try Utilities > HD first aid at the start up. See if that fixes it. I tried everything I could find online. No luck. I then went to the genius bar at apple and had them check it out. The SSD had become unmounted. They ran diagnostic and all was good. Reloaded Mojave back on it. Back normal. took about 1 hr. Currently I am getting the unable to complete install. Corrupt installer. download and retry. Error message. Tried a couple of times but still hangs up. Disappointed in the this update. Not sure what is happening at apple. Maybe they hired people from Microsoft. I will wait a while maybe they will get the bugs out.
During my testing in the Catalina beta version I was able to download 10.15, 10.14.6, 10.14.5, and 10.13.6. I was not able to test if 10.13.6 would download the hardware specific build of 10.13.6 for the 2018 MacBook Pro, since I do not have that hardware.
As an alternative to the macOS installers for .NET, you can download and manually install the SDK and runtime. Manual installation is usually performed as part of continuous integration testing. For a developer or user, it's generally better to use an installer.

For those who archive older macOS installers, this means that the macOS installers in question will need to be re-downloaded. macOS Catalina has added some new functionality to the softwareupdate tool which can assist with this. For more details, please see below the jump.
You should receive a message that the the installer is downloading and installing. In this context, the message refers to installing the macOS Installer app into the /Applications directory on the Mac.
It also appears the Apple KBase article for upgrading to OS X El Capitan and the Apple KBase article for upgrading to OS X Yosemite have similar download links to a disk image file which contains the OS X installer.
Expecting a full Install macOS Sierra.app, I followed the Apple link and downloaded the InstallOS.pkg file. I had an external boot drive with Sierra installed and an older Install macOS Sierra.app in the Applications folder. I booted a 2012 MBP from the external drive and erased the internal drive and ran InstallOS.pkg from the external boot drive expecting a working installer, but the install ran very quickly with no interaction. When it finished, my older Install macOS Sierra.app had been updated and has installed Sierra 10.12.6 (16G29) without a problem. My older installer was dated July 14, 2017, modified June 24, 2019 and was version 12.6.03. Next up: will it create a good USB installer? 2ff7e9595c
